Hello!
KS1 have been busy this week exploring everything that the grounds of Brookburn has to offer!
In Year 1 we discussed what happens when we mix the primary colours red, yellow and blue. We then carried out a first-hand colour mixing experiment to make the appropriate secondary colours using a palette of primary colours. We made lighter and darker shades of these colours, particularly using natural colours such as green and brown. After that we explored the outdoors to colour match our shades to interesting things from around the school grounds and we later shared each group’s collection with the rest of the class – sorting all items into groups and selecting categories e.g soft/hard, man-made/ natural., trasparent/opaque. We also worked in groups to use the outdoors to collect and collage different materials to make pictures and models using small and large scale construction. We hope you enjoy our photographs and we would love for you to blog us with any questions you have about our imaginative creations- can you guess what we have made?

Hello!
Last week we enjoyed the second of our Virtual Sports Competitions but this time Year 6 were our Super Sports Supports! They helped us around the obstacle course, demonstrated each station and cheered us on throughout! We look forward to finding out the results and also taking part in our KS1 Sports on Wednesday 30th June! Enjoy our photographs!

Hello!
We are currently enjoying outdoor activities during School Grounds Week.
We went pond dipping today with our Teachers and the Mersey Valley Warden!
Pond dipping was a great way for us to discover a whole new world of wildlife in our own school grounds!
Some of the animals we found whilst we were pond dipping included larva, snails, pond skaters, beetles and other bugs, as well as little tadpoles! It was great fun trying to identify which bugs we had found!
We hope that you enjoy our photographs,
Year 1.

In year 1 we have been reading the story “We’re Going on A Bear Hunt”. The children have made up some of their own stories about hunting. Click below to read them and please add your own.

Hello, we’ve been extremely busy this week so far… & it’s only day 2!
Our new topic is called ‘How does your garden grow?’ so we have been experimenting with food colouring and white flowers to see how water is absorbed up their stem- we predicted that the red food colouring and blue water colouring would change the flower petals red and blue… we have tested our predictions and will observe carefully- findings to follow! Lots of children have brought in their sunflower pots and we have growth! Up to 10cm in some cases! The competition to find the tallest sunflower continues…! We also enjoyed sowing the seeds of butternut squash, courgette, and a winter squash called Turk’s turban, which we found out were all from the cucumber family! We hope to plant out very soon and care for them over half term. Tomorrow we we look forward to another virtual sports competition where we are competing against our personal best, other class teams, across the school, and even other local schools taking part! Last of all, we very much miss Fiona from our class and we hope she and her sister Katherine get well very soon. They have chicken pox :-(
Blog happy! Year 1.
