Hello Children!
I imagine you’re all either on holiday away somewhere lovely or enjoying spending time playing at home or visiting family and friends. Firstly I absolutely must share with you a HUGE THANK YOU for all of my precious end-of-year gifts and cards, especially the personal messages from your Mummy’s and Daddy’s, which I must admit made me smile but also shed many a tear!! I have had an absolutely fantastic year with you and your children and they will remain very special to me forever as they were my first class at Brookburn. Secondly, I have added some pictures from our Fabulous Friday Fun day for you to enjoy if you manage to fit some blogging time in! Unfortunately the blog isn’t quite working quite correctly so you need to ask an adult to help you. Click on ‘view all images’ and it will forward you to another place where you can view them- be patient, it takes a little while to load! (*parents be vigilant as it is an external site and may include advertisements that you may want to check first). For those who still visit the blog, please blog me about what you are getting up to as it would be a joy to hear from you! Enjoy your summer holidays and I will see you in September,
Miss Bergin (& Barnaby- who is already fed up about being at my house every day and wants to come and play with you!!) x

Hello!
KS1 have been busy this week exploring everything that the grounds of Brookburn has to offer!
In Year 1 we discussed what happens when we mix the primary colours red, yellow and blue. We then carried out a first-hand colour mixing experiment to make the appropriate secondary colours using a palette of primary colours. We made lighter and darker shades of these colours, particularly using natural colours such as green and brown. After that we explored the outdoors to colour match our shades to interesting things from around the school grounds and we later shared each group’s collection with the rest of the class – sorting all items into groups and selecting categories e.g soft/hard, man-made/ natural., trasparent/opaque. We also worked in groups to use the outdoors to collect and collage different materials to make pictures and models using small and large scale construction. We hope you enjoy our photographs and we would love for you to blog us with any questions you have about our imaginative creations- can you guess what we have made?

Hello!
Last week we enjoyed the second of our Virtual Sports Competitions but this time Year 6 were our Super Sports Supports! They helped us around the obstacle course, demonstrated each station and cheered us on throughout! We look forward to finding out the results and also taking part in our KS1 Sports on Wednesday 30th June! Enjoy our photographs!

Hello!
We are currently enjoying outdoor activities during School Grounds Week.
We went pond dipping today with our Teachers and the Mersey Valley Warden!
Pond dipping was a great way for us to discover a whole new world of wildlife in our own school grounds!
Some of the animals we found whilst we were pond dipping included larva, snails, pond skaters, beetles and other bugs, as well as little tadpoles! It was great fun trying to identify which bugs we had found!
We hope that you enjoy our photographs,
Year 1.

In year 1 we have been reading the story “We’re Going on A Bear Hunt”. The children have made up some of their own stories about hunting. Click below to read them and please add your own.

Hello, we’ve been extremely busy this week so far… & it’s only day 2!
Our new topic is called ‘How does your garden grow?’ so we have been experimenting with food colouring and white flowers to see how water is absorbed up their stem- we predicted that the red food colouring and blue water colouring would change the flower petals red and blue… we have tested our predictions and will observe carefully- findings to follow! Lots of children have brought in their sunflower pots and we have growth! Up to 10cm in some cases! The competition to find the tallest sunflower continues…! We also enjoyed sowing the seeds of butternut squash, courgette, and a winter squash called Turk’s turban, which we found out were all from the cucumber family! We hope to plant out very soon and care for them over half term. Tomorrow we we look forward to another virtual sports competition where we are competing against our personal best, other class teams, across the school, and even other local schools taking part! Last of all, we very much miss Fiona from our class and we hope she and her sister Katherine get well very soon. They have chicken pox
Blog happy! Year 1.

Hello Children,
Here are some photographs from the Sports competition today. You were all excellent and worked superbly well as part of a team- trying your individual best and supporting each other. I liked Joshua’s description of teamwork- ‘a team player should have good sportsmanship!’ Well, you all certainly showed that there is no ‘I’ in ‘TEAM’! Well done! I look forward to finding out the results!
Miss Bergin.
P.s Thank you to our injured sportslady, Madeline, who was a super supporter too!

Hello Yr1/2 Children,
Here are some photographs from the Cartoon Animation Workshop- the edited animation will follow soon!
Our animation of Jack and the beanstalk is toon-tastic and I am really excited to share the film with the rest of the children at school (but I’ll leave it up to you, the experts, to teach them the tricks of the trade!).
You were also extremely well behaved and a credit to our school- well done!
We hope the other children enjoy the enrichment things coming up, including:
- The BBC visit Brookburn!
- Brookburn visits the Blue Box Theatre!
- Science week (21st June)
Keep Blogging!
Miss Bergin

A big hello from Miss Hindsons class back at Brookburn. We have been learning about and writing a lot of poems lately in our literacy lessons. We have made an acrostic poem about our school.
B is for Billy. He is our class bear.
R is for red. The colour of our uniform.
O is for oranges. Our favourite fruit.
O is for outside. We have a new outdoor classroom.
K is for kind. All the teachers are kind to us.
B is for Brookies! They help us in the playground
U is for unique. There is no other school quite like us.
R is for running. We have lots of space to run and play.
N is for nice. Our school is a nice place to learn.
We would like to challenge you today to make an acrostic poem for your school so that we can find out what is special and unique about you. Have fun!!
